Sprite Tutorial - RPG Maker VX by NappingCondor Sprite Tutorial - RPG Maker VX by NappingCondor
Sorry for the crappy explanations and messy writing. And the overall chaos of the whole tutorial. I hope it makes some kind of sense!

My dear sweet little brother has been bugging me forever to explain how to make sprites work on RPG Maker VX. Now that I've actually taken the time to make this tutorial, I also explained how to set up a sprite sheet as though speaking to someone who has never used photoshop in their life. Effectively. Like my bro ^^. Heh heh...
Love ya, Lucas!!!

RPG Maker VX is Enterbrain's.

What if you want the sprites to be bigger? Can you double their sizes and would they work in the game?

Yes, it works in game. What you do is when you go to save it, put a dollar sign "$" in front of the name of the sprite. Example: $Person.png
Then when you insert it, it should be bigger.
Trust me I'm making an Attack on Titan RPG so I'm doing this a lot.

You can use several sprite makers, but it could be helpful to people who have slow internet connection.

Thank you so much. I now have something to guide me better when making sprites. I use to make them one by one and place them later but now I can skip that step and have a more simple approach. Thank you very much!

Sorry man, I don't know anything about Ace. There are a whole bunch of really supportive community forums for the RPG Maker programs that you could probably get some help from. They'll cover everything from basics to providing free graphics to code. Best of luck ~

perfect, I was looking for just that to help me make my sprite sheet

Do you also know what the image dimensions/resolution and grid size is for a face sprite sheet?  That's the only thing I need to know now.

Thanks for the excellent tutorial :D

The face sprite sheet? As in the faces you can show in text boxes to depict which character is speaking?

Do you know the same info for face sprites?  As in file dimensions/resolution and grid size.

Does this work for Rpg maker vx ace too? And to design your own character, how do you do it? Do you need a diferent program, if so which? Thanks this helps a lot, sadly I'm new to this.

Hey there ;D.

I haven't actually worked with Ace, but following RPG Maker logic I'm *assuming* it would work the same way. Sprite sheets are sprite sheets, and you make them the same way; the only difference might be the importation (getting the sprites you've designed into the actual program).

As for the design of the sprites, you do need a separate program to work in. Any program that you can adjust the canvas size using pixels for units will work. I think you can even do this in Microsoft Paint, though you can't lay down a grid automatically. GIMP, which is the free equivalent of Photoshop should have a grid function (I specified the dimensions you need to set your grid for -- it'll be the same for every program). Photoshop obviously works, Easy Paint Tool SAI... any painting program. The only limitation is the size of the sprites. If any of your sprites exceed... like, 32x32 pixels or whatever it is (I don't remember off the top of my head -- it's in the tutorial), it'll screw up the animation in the program. Each individual sprite must absolutely be the designated size.

Oh, haha xD! I assure you, good sir, one pixel will NOT make a noticeable difference in the orientation of the sprite in-game xD. You'll be just fine :). Good luck on your game!

this actually helps a lot, i needed to know how many pixels the program allocates to each sprite, and how i need to orient them on the page to get a flawless animation. this helped a lot!

Neh, I just prefer PS because you can set up the grid and it's a lot easier to switch up your colours, but to each their own I suppose :I.
